MORRIGHAN AS WAR DEITY |
She is seen throughout history in the forms of a raven or crow and a red heifer. Her motherland is the Celtic nations, primarily Ireland. She is a Triple-Goddess aspect and Her name is Morrighan. Her other names are Badb which means crow or raven and refers to a group of goddesses, Macha which means pasture, field or plain, and Nemain which means a frenzy as in the battle fury of a warrior goddess. She is a Celtic Goddess of war, fertility and the earth, and is also a Goddess of the Sidhe or Faerie realms. She despises being called The Morrighan as many reference Her as, as She sees Herself as one not many and not as an object. I have worked with Morrighan at least one other lifetime that I know of with my past-life daughter who lives in Clarkston, Washington. A typical altar of Morrighans will have Her red and black candles with red on the right and black on the left, I generally also leave Her moonstone and bloodstone as well as Her Hawthorne berries. She is a big drinker of Ales. She was a great protection in Iraq last year with Desert Moon and Her presence was felt by all. My ancestry is also Celt and do plan on tracing Her paths throughout the Celtic lands one day when win the lotto and make it rich, but meantime She follows me everywhere I go ensuring safety. I will close this article with the protection rite to Morrighan written by my daughter, Baobhan Sith. THE RITE OF PROTECTION OF THE MORRIGHAN O' Great Morrighan, As your daughters and Sons head to a foreign land I ask You to protect our Earth Brothers, to protect our Earth Sisters, protect our beloved groves, and most of all their families. May their hearts beat in time to the Earth's drum, may they beat strong in the rough days ahead. O' Great Morrighan, I ask You to protect our Air Brothers, to protect our Air Sisters, protect our beloved groves and most all their families. May their prayers whisper to the Winds, may they be a everlasting light in the night. O' Great Morrighan, I ask You to protect our Fire Brothers, to Protect our Fire Sisters, protect our beloved groves, and most of all their families. May their sword hold the warrior's Fire may their dicipline spread, hold through the fight. O' Great Morrighan, I ask You to Protect our Water Brothers, to protect our Water Sisters, protect our beloved groves, and most of all their families. May their healers touch be ever present, may they banish all dread. In blood we are born, in blood we live and in blood we shall cross to the Feasting Halls. In Her blood we are anointed and in Her blood we shall know victory. The Morrighan offers no quarter and none shall be given. Raise your swords, raise your spirit for those you love and enjoin your soul to bring us victory. By Her grace we shall not go quietly. Raise your voices brave souls.... Raise your voices in song and let the foe know they shall find only DEATH, FEAR AND DEFEAT This Rite we conducted at Pagan Pride and is very near and dear to my heart. For all those that were there, it choked me up conducting the Rite and it still brings a tear to my eye. Hope you all enjoy this and please light a candle for all of us over here and remember us in your thoughts. BB. Eric |
